The Caballeros

Before there was a buckle company, there was a group of boys in Southern California named the Caballeros. They were Valley boys during the 1960s, growing up at the beach, in the sun, and at the diner. They were always somewhere they probably shouldn’t have been, doing something harmless.

The boys first connected through the YMCA’s Hi-Y program. The group grew from roughly a dozen members to as many as 50 and remained part of their lives well into adulthood.

Their Adventures

The Caballeros were a group of friends who found each other young and never let go.

They pulled pranks on each other, camped, fished, played poker late into the night. Golf, horseshoes, whatever counted as adventure that week. Got into trouble the way teenage boys do, nothing that would ruin you, just enough to make a good story later.

Every Saturday night, there was a party to bring their girlfriends to.

What started as a way to keep each other out of trouble turned into something bigger. A social club, in the truest sense. The kind of guys other guys looked up to.

The Bachelor Party

One story the Caballeros still love to retell is my grandfather's bachelor party.

The details depend on who's telling it, but the shape of the story never changes. The guys got him drunk, tied him up, and covered him in honey and feathers pulled straight from a pillow. Then they loaded him up to drop him off at his fiancée's house, except drunk as he was, he had the sense to refuse giving them the address.

The Bond That Outlasted the Boys

My grandfather was one of them.

While he’s now gone, the Caballeros aren’t. What began in their youth became a lifelong bond that outlived a generation and was passed down to the next.

They meet every September, seeking new adventures and memories, traveling to destinations like Bend and Yellowstone. The same guys, new decades, and new generations now coming along too.

The Caballeros

This name belongs to a group of men who showed me what loyalty and brotherhood look like. When it came time for me to name this brand, there wasn't really another option. The group came together during their teenage years and is still making the trip every September, sixty years later.

Caballero Buckle is built on these men. Built to last, passed down, and cherished, the same way they have for six decades.

Every buckle carries the name Caballero, and now, so can you.
